Images of rallies and public gatherings during ‘Maratha Quota Protests’ are being shared as processions in support of CAB

A post with four images is being widely shared on Facebook with the claim that they show people rallying in Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra supporting the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Let’s analyze the authenticity of the claim in the post.

Claim: Images of people in Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra rallying in support of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

Fact: The images are that of rallies and public gatherings during ‘Maratha Quota Protests’ in Maharashtra. So, the claim is FALSE.    

When the images in the post are subjected to reverse image search technique, they were found to be related to the ‘‘Maratha Quota Protests’ in the Maharashtra state.

Image-1:
As per the article of ‘DNA’, the image is that of a public gathering in Jalna (Maharashtra) in September 2016 as part of the ‘Maratha Quota Protests’.

Image-2:
As per the October 12, 2016 article of ‘Live Mint’, the image is from the rally of members of the Maratha community during the ‘Maratha Quota Protests’ in Maharashtra.

Image-3:
As per the article of ‘India Today’, the image is that of a rally during ‘Maratha Quota Protests’ in Sangli (Maharashtra) in October 2016.

Image-4:
As per the article of ‘Indian Express’, the image is that of a rally during ‘Maratha Quota Protests’ in Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) in October 2016.

Another post (archived) claiming that the image in it shows people of West Bengal rallying in support of CAB is also doing rounds on Facebook.

As per the article of ‘Maharashtra Times’, the image is that of a rally during ‘Maratha Quota Protests’ in Pune (Maharashtra) in September 2016.

To conclude, the images of rallies and public gatherings during ‘Maratha Quota Protests’ are being shared as processions in support of CAB.
