Image of a man who died in 2016 is being shared with a false narrative

A post with a photo is being widely shared on Facebook claiming that it shows a 23-year-old man kidnapped and raped by three women in Telangana. Let’s analyze the authenticity of the claim in the post.

Claim: Image of a 23-year-old man kidnapped and raped by three women inTelangana.

Fact: The man in the image is Hasnain Warekar, a resident of Thane (Maharashtra). He died in 2016 after committing suicide. So, the claim is FALSE.

When the image in the post is subjected to Google reverse image search, the same image was found in an article of ‘Hindustan Times’. From that article dated 29 February 2016, it was found that the man in the image is Hasnain Warekar, a resident of Thane (Maharashtra). He had committed suicide after killing fourteen of his family members over a property dispute. From the tweet of ‘ANI’, it is learnt that the man in the photograph died in 2016 after committing suicide.

During the search process, it was found that the incident mentioned in the post took place in Eastern Pretoria of South Africa in 2017. Information about the incident can be read here.
