Fake news clip says ‘19-year-old IIT Kharagpur student Arvind Kejriwal accused of raping a girl’

A news clip with the heading – ‘IIT student accused of rape’ is being widely shared on social media. The clip reads that 19-year-old IIT Kharagpur student, Arvind Kejriwal, is accused of raping a local girl and was detained by the Police for questioning over the incident. Let’s analyze the authenticity of the news clip.

Claim: A newspaper published that 19-year-old IIT Kharagpur student Arvind Kejriwal is accused of raping a local girl and was detained by the Police for questioning.   

Fact: No information was found about Arvind Kejriwal being arrested for raping a girl during his study at IIT Kharagpur. The news clip in the post is ‘digitally’ created. So, the claim is FALSE. 

When searched about the news referred to in the clip, information from no credible source was found. So, the news clip is clearly a fake one and has been created by using a website like ‘fodey.com’. The third column in the news clip and that in the ‘sample’ of fodey.com website is the same.
