Edited video falsely shared as visuals of MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan raising his voice against Narendra Modi government

A video is being shared on social media claiming it as the visuals of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan raising his voice against the increasing prices of essential commodities under the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government. This video shows CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other BJP leaders chanting the famous ‘Mehngai Dayain Khaye Jaat Hai’ song from the ‘Peepli Live’ movie. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan raising his voice against the rising inflation under Narendra Modi-led BJP government.

Fact: The video shared in the post is an edited one. The original video shows Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other BJP leaders singing “Gopala Jai Jai. Govind Jai Jai” chants at a temple in Panna. This video was shot on 20 October 2021, when Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the International ‘Sharad Purnima’ festival in Panna. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has not made any statement recently against the rising prices of essential commodities. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE

On reverse image search of the screenshots with appropriate keywords, a video with similar visuals was found published on the ‘News 24 Madhya Pradesh’ YouTube channel, on 21 October 2021. This video reported it as the visuals of Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan performing Bhajans on the occasion of the ‘Sharadh Purnima’ festival in Panna, Madhya Pradesh. The original video shows Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other BJP leaders chanting “Gopala Jai Jai. Govind Jai Jai” chants in a temple. A few media channels have also published this original bhajan video of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. They can be seen here and here.

On 20 October 2021, Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the International Sharad Purnima festival held at Panna city in Madhya Pradesh. As part of the ‘Sharad Purnima’ festival, Shivraj Chouhan reportedly visited several temples in Panna and performed Bhajana along with other BJP leaders. When this doctored video was falsely shared as the visuals of Shivraj Singh Chouhan raising his voice against Narendra Modi, BJP district media in-charge Shrikant Jain tweeted the original video on 22 October 2021. Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has not made any statement accusing Narendra Modi of increasing prices of essential commodities in the country.
