An image is going viral on social media (here, here, and here) claiming to show Mahatma Gandhi touching the feet of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The post urges people to share the image widely, claiming it to be rare. Let’s find out the authenticity of the post through this article.

The archive version of the video can be found here.

Claim: Photo showing Gandhi touching the feet of Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Fact: The viral photo is an edited version of another photo. The original photo of Babasaheb Ambedkar shows him with his wife, servant, and pet dog, without Gandhi. The original photo of Gandhi is from the 1930 Dandi March and depicts him picking up salt. These two photos were combined and presented to show Gandhi touching Ambedkar’s feet. Hence, the claim in the post is FALSE.

A Google Lens search of the viral image led us to two different pictures (here and here). We discovered that the viral image is a combination of two separate pictures. The original photo of Babasaheb is captioned, “Dr. Ambedkar with wife Dr. Savita Ambedkar, servant Sudama, and their pet dog.” Gandhi was not present in the original frame, confirming that the viral image had been edited.

Further investigation into the image of Gandhi led us to the original photo, which dates back to the time of the Dandi March 1930. In this picture, Gandhi is seen picking up salt.

Notably, these edited pictures have been shared on social media since 2014. However, it’s unclear when the original image was first altered.

To sum up, two different photos were edited and falsely shared as Mahatma Gandhi touching Babashaeb Ambedkar’s feet.
