A screenshot of ‘Fox News’ is being shared on social media with a claim that it reported – ‘Joe Biden has been President for nine hours and 400,000 Americans are dead’. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Screenshot of ‘Fox News’ reporting that 400,000 Americans died within nine hours of Biden’s Presidentship.
Fact: ‘Fox News’ has not reported any such news. The screenshot was originally shared by ‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’. The same ‘Fox News’ template has been used by ‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’ on many previous occasions. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
On the posted photo, one can see that it is written – ‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’, on the top-right corner. So, when we searched on its Twitter profile, the same photo was found to be posted with the message – ‘Hannity tonight’. In their profile description, it is written – ‘Trevor Noah and The World’s Fakest News Team.’
The same ‘Fox News’ template has been used by ‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’ on many previous occasions at least since February 2018. They have the same accompanying message – ‘Hannity tonight’. Some of those tweets can be seen here, here, here, and here. So, the posted screenshot of ‘Fox News’ regarding 400,000 deaths is an edited one.
Also, when we searched with keywords on the website of ‘Fox News’, no such news was found. A couple of days ago it was reported – ‘the U.S. exceeded 400,000 deaths due to the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The saddening milestone comes just over a month after the nation surpassed 300,000 virus-related deaths in December, breaking 250,000 deaths less than a month prior.”
To sum it up, an edited ‘Fox News’ screenshot claims 400,000 Americans died within 9 hours of Biden’s Presidentship.
