The Bharatiya Janata Party won the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, regaining power in the capital after 27 years. Amidst this, a post going viral on social media (here, here, and here) claims that Delhi Metro fares increased following the BJP’s victory in the recently concluded elections. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

Claim: Delhi Metro fares increased following the BJP’s victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
Fact: The graphic in the viral post is from a NavBharat Times report dated 10 October 2017, when Delhi Metro fares were increased by the Delhi Metro board. We found no credible reports confirming any fare hike following the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. Additionally, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) clarified on 12 February 2025 that fares have not been revised or increased. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To verify the claim we searched the internet using relevant keywords but found no credible reports confirming an increase in Delhi Metro fares following the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
A Google Lens search of the viral post led us to a NavBharat Times report dated 10 October 2017, featuring the same graphic (archived). It stated that despite Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s efforts, the Delhi Metro Board implemented a fare hike. The new fares took effect on the same day, with no change for 0-2 km, a ₹5 increase for 2-5 km, and ₹10 more for longer distances.

We also found multiple media reports (here, here, and here) from October 2017 addressing the issue of the Delhi Metro fare hike.
Additionally, we found an X post (archived) by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) dated 12 February 2025, clarifying that the fares have not been revised or increased. The post stated that fares can only be revised by an independent Fare Fixation Committee, which has not been constituted.
To sum up, an old 2017 NavBharat Times graphic is being falsely shared, claiming that Delhi Metro fares increased after the BJP’s victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
