A video (here and here) circulating on social media allegedly shows the process of making a special Indian Cow dung food. Let’s fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: The process of making a special Indian Cow dung food.

Fact: This video contains two different clips. The first shows a woman picking up cow dung and mixing it with water, and the second shows the process of making Kachori, an Indian street food. Kachori, or the curry with which it is eaten, is not made using cow dung. Hence the claim made in the post is False.

The viral video implies that the food item made uses cow dung as an ingredient. Although we could not find the source of this video, we could decipher that this video tries to concoct a fake story. Although it seems like a video showing the process of making an Indian snack with Cow dung as one of its ingredients, we observed a few abnormalities in it. In the video, after the woman mixes water with cow dung, the video transitions to a person pouring a greenish-coloured food item into a dish. This clearly shows vegetables that are not present in a cow dung and water mixture.

Further, through a reverse image search on the internet, we learned that the food item which is being cooked in the video is Kachori, a famous Indian street food/snack. Plenty of videos on the internet show the process of making Kachori and its curry. These (here, here, and here ) match with the process being shown in the viral video. None of them uses cow dung as an ingredient. Many videos on the internet show the process of making various types of Kachori, and it is usually prepared using maida, ghee, lentils, and various other spices (here).

To check whether there is any place in India where Kachori made of Cow dung is sold, we searched the internet with relevant keywords. This search did not yield any relevant results. This clearly proves that the viral video is just made to fool the audiences into believing that Indian cuisine has a food item made of cow dung. Except for using cakes made of Cow dung as fuel, Indian cuisine contains no food item with cow dung as its ingredient.

To sum up, Cow dung is not generally used as an ingredient to make Kachori or its sabzi as alleged in this viral video.
