Commemorative Ramayana postage stamps released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017 shared as recent ones

An image of ‘Ramayana’ postage stamps is doing the rounds on Facebook claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released them ahead of his ‘Bhoomi Puja’ event in Ayodhya. PM Modi is set to visit Ayodhya on ‘5 August 2020’ to lay the foundation stone for ‘Ram Temple’. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Image of ‘Ramayana’ postage stamps recently released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Fact: The ‘Ramayana’ postage stamps in the image were released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2017. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

When we subjected the image to reverse image search technique, the same image was found in an article of a blog ‘Sapost.blogspot.com’. The blog article was published on ‘26 September 2017’ and it had the title ‘​India Post issued a set of 11 commemorative postage stamps on “RAMAYANA” on 22.09.2017’.

With the above information, when we looked on ‘India Postage Stamps’ website, a link was found which says that India Post has issued a set of 11 Commemorative postage stamps on ‘Ramayana’ on ‘22 September 2017’. The viral image can be seen in that link of ‘India Postage Stamps’ website.

The Postage stamps on ‘Ramayana’ were released  by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi in September 2017.

Several news articles were found that reported that on 5 August 2020, after the ‘Bhoomi Puja’ event at Ayodhya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to launch postal stamps on a symbolic model of the Ram temple and the Ramayana. Those reports can be seen here and here. However, the stamps in the image shared on social media are not new.
