A video of the former chief minister of Maharastra Uddhav Thackeray calling referring to Aurangzeb as his brother, is being shared on social media. The post’s description in India translates to ‘ Aurangazeb was my brother’, said the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackrey‘, alluding to that Thackeray was referring to the Mughal emperor. Fact: The viral clip is an edited version of Thackeray’s entire speech, which he gave on 19 February 2023. In the full version, he talks about a soldier named Aurangzeb, who was kidnapped and killed by militants in Jammu and Kashmir. Hence the claim made in the post is False.

We performed a keyword search on YouTube to find the full version of the viral clip. This led us to a video uploaded by ‘ABP MAJHA.‘ Titled ‘Uddhav Thackeray Full Speech: नाव आणि चिन्ह गेल्यानंतर ‘मोगॅम्बो खुश हुआ’, रोख अमित शाहांवर’ This was uploaded on 19 February 2023. At 15:02, he talks about a soldier named Aurangzeb, who militants in Kashmir killed in July 2018.
