A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Rahul Gandhi said he was thankful that people faced difficulties because of rain. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Rahul Gandhi saying that he was thankful people had to face difficulties because of the rain.

Fact: The video was clipped from a longer speech given by Rahul Gandhi at a public meeting in Manipur. At the end of his speech, he thanked people who attended the meeting for coming from far off places. Rahul Gandhi said that the people who attended the meeting must have faced difficulties because of rain and he was thankful that they managed to attend despite such unfavourable weather conditions. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

When reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video, the same visuals were found in a longer video uploaded by the official YouTube channel of Rahul Gandhi. The YouTube video was live-streamed on 21 February 2022 from a public meeting at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal in Manipur. The 10-second viral video is clipped at 1:04:51 timeframe from this longer YouTube video.

Rahul Gandhi’s speech starts from 38 minutes where he talks about India being a union of states, Congress’ vision, and BJP’s assault on the culture and democratic values of India. At the near end of the speech, after talking about Manipur, he thanks the people at the meeting for coming from very far places. Rahul Gandhi says that the people who attended the meeting must have faced difficulties because of rain and he was thankful that they managed to attend despite such unfavourable weather conditions.

To sum it up, this video is clipped from Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Manipur when he was thanking the people for attending the public meeting despite the rain.
