A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Sonu Sood had endorsed Charanjit Channi as the Chief Minister face for the upcoming state elections in Punjab. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Sonu Sood endorsing Charanjit Channi as the CM face for the upcoming state elections in Punjab.

Fact: The video had been edited to show that Sonu Sood was endorsing Charanjit Channi as the CM face for the upcoming state elections in Punjab. The video was taken from Sonu Sood’s interview with Barkha Dutt where he was talking about himself and his plans to contest elections in the future. Sonu Sood did not endorse anyone as the CM face in this interview. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

When reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video, the same video was found on the official Facebook page of the Indian National Congress. The video was also found on its official Twitter handle.

However, the portion where Sonu Sood talks about a Chief Minister candidate was taken from an interview with Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story. The interview video from 13:15 timeframe had been clipped to make a video of Sonu Sood endorsing Charanjit Channi as Congress’ CM face in upcoming Punjab state elections. In the interview, when Barkha Dutt asks Sonu Sood about being a Chief Ministerial candidate, and his entry into politics; Sonu Sood replied (as in the video) about choosing an ideal CM candidate. Sonu Sood did not endorse anyone as the CM face in this interview.

About the same video, Barkha Dutt had Tweeted saying that the Congress party had edited the clip from her interview with Sonu Sood. She added that Sonu Sood, in the interview, was talking about himself and his plans to contest elections in the future.

To sum it up, a segment of Sonu Sood’s interview is shared as his endorsement of Charanjit Singh Channi as the CM face for the upcoming state elections in Punjab.
