This video clip from ‘The Bear’ film was not nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records

A video of a bear surviving a chase from a lioness is being shared on social media claiming it is a video nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of a bear surviving a chase from a mountain lion that was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Fact: The video shows a clip from the French film ‘The Bear’ which was released in 1988. The film was nominated under different categories in the Academy Awards and BAFTA Awards and it won the best feature film at the 1990 Genesis Awards. However, the film did not get listed in the Guinness Book of World Records in any of the categories. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, a video with similar visuals was found published by a YouTube channel on 31 October 2007. This YouTube channel described it as a video clip from the L’Ours film which released in 1988.

The French film ‘The Bear’ (originally titled as L’Ours) was directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and was based on the novel “The Grizzly King”. When we searched to check whether ‘The Bear’ film was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, we could not find ‘The Bear’ film being listed in any of the categories on the Guinness Book of World Records website.

‘The Bear’ film was nominated under different categories in Academy, BAFTA and other awards. The film even won the best feature film at the 1990 Genesis Awards. But the film did not get listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as mentioned in the post.

To sum it up, this video clip from ‘The Bear’ film was not nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records.
