A video is being shared on social media claiming it as visuals of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan calling himself a Pathan from Pakistan and heard saying that whenever Pakistan wins a match, he felt like his father’s side had won the match. In the wake of the upcoming release of Shah Rukh Khan’s movie ‘Pathaan’, this video is going viral on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Shah Rukh Khan calling Pakistan’s win as a victory for his father’s side.

Fact: The video shared in the post is a clipped one. The video shows a clip from the ‘Chak De Yaara’ event hosted by Shah Rukh Khan in 2007.  An extended version of this video clip shows Shah Rukh Khan saying- “ When you (Pakistan cricket team) win, I feel like my dad’s side has won. And when our India wins, it feels like my mother’s side has won.” The video shared in the post clipped the portion of Shah Rukh Khan talking about India’s victory. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

The video shows Shah Rukh speaking at an event attended by Pakistan players Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Umar Gul and others. When searched for this video using relevant keywords on the internet, a video showing similar visuals was found published by a YouTube channel with the title, “SRK fun with Paki players in 2007 Chak de Yaara show”.

When we searched for further sources using relevant keywords on the internet, we found the full video of the 2007 Chak De Yaara event on a YouTube channel. From 33.18 minutes of this video, Shah Rukh Khan was heard saying- “I want to tell you that my father is actually from Peshawar, Pakistan. I am a Pathan too though I don’t look like them. Maybe because of lack of height. This is not to create any controversy but, when you (the Pakistan cricket team) win, I feel like a victory for my father’s side. And when our India wins, it feels like my mother’s side has won. My dad has died young otherwise I would have liked him to marry English and Australian women. So, I would be happy whoever had won.”  The video shared in the post clipped the portion of Shah Rukh Khan talking about India’s victory.

The longer version video of the ‘Chak De Yaara’ event is also available on the Dailymotion site. Shah Rukh Khan in multiple interviews revealed about his ancestral origins in Pakistan and said that his father is from Peshawar in Pakistan. Several news websites published articles reporting Shah Rukh’s family background.

Lately, in the context of Shah Rukh’s upcoming movie ‘Pathaan’, when a morphed ‘BBC News’ tweet was shared claiming that Shah Rukh Khan has promised to donate ‘Pathaan’ first-day collections to a Pakistan NGO, FACTLY published a fact-check article debunking that claim.

To sum it up, this video of Shah Rukh Khan calling Pakistan’s victory a win for his father’s side is a clipped one.
