A video going viral on social media (here, here, and here) shows two women working in a kitchen. The first woman prepares juice in a glass and leaves, while the second woman pours a liquid into it. The post claims that a house help, Farida Khatoon, was caught mixing urine in the juice of her Hindu employer, who is reportedly a Samajwadi Party leader. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

Claim: The video shows a Muslim house help, Farida Khatoon, who was caught mixing urine in the juice of her Hindu employer, who is a Samajwadi Party leader.

Fact: The viral video is old and not from India. According to media reports, the incident took place in Kuwait, where a young house help was caught on camera adding urine to the family’s orange juice before serving it. The family, suspecting their house help of adulterating their drinks, installed cameras in the kitchen. The footage was later aired on the Diwan Al-Mulla program on the Al-Shahid channel. It remains unclear whether the family fired the house help or took legal action. However, we couldn’t independently verify when and where exactly the video was shot, but based on the available evidence, it is clear that it is an old video and unrelated to India. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.

A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to a news report by One India News, published on 28 April 2016. The report, titled ‘Maid caught mixing urine into her boss’s juice’, features the same video. According to the report, a young house-help working in a Kuwaiti household was caught on camera adding her urine into the family’s orange juice just before serving it for breakfast.

Using relevant Arabic keywords, we found several media reports (here, and here) (archived here, and here) featuring screenshots from the viral video. According to these reports, the incident was captured by a camera installed in a home and later aired on a Kuwaiti talk show. The footage is featured on the Diwan Al-Mulla program on the Al-Shahid channel. However, whether the family fired the house help or took legal action after the incident remains unclear.

We found several English reports about the same incident (here, here, and here). According to reports, the family had suspected their house help of adulterating their drinks, so they decided to install cameras in the kitchen. The footage showed the two workers doing their daily tasks, with one of them seen adding urine to a drink.

Though we couldn’t independently verify when and where exactly the video was shot, based on the available evidence, it is clear that it is an old video and unrelated to India.
