A video of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav allegedly talking to the media in an inebriated state is doing the rounds on social media. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Video of RJD leader and ex-Deputy CM of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, talking to the media in an inebriated state.
Fact: This is an edited video. The playback speed of this video has been reduced to make it look as if Tejashwi Yadav was addressing the media in a drunken state. The original report of Tejaswi’s interaction with the media uploaded by several mainstream media organisations has visuals of him speaking normally, contrary to how he was seen in the viral video. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
On noticing the logo of the news channel “R. Bharat, in the viral video, we performed a keyword search online which led us to the original video report uploaded to the official YouTube channel of ‘Republic Bharat.’
After watching the video, we found that the viral video and this video are mostly similar, except that the playback speed of this one seemed faster than the viral video.
This means that the original video was edited by reducing the speed and making it seem as if Tejashwi Yadav was talking in a drunk state.
Speaking about the allotment of the cabinet minister roles in the original video, he said, ‘…It is the PM’s prerogative to allot ministries, but work should happen in all the departments. However, he became the PM because of Bihar, but the ministries given to Bihar’s leaders show that they have been short-changed…”
Through a subsequent search online, we found longer versions (here and here) of this video uploaded by multiple other media outlets such as the Times of India, Aaj Tak, NDTV India, etc. In all these videos, the portion seen in the viral video seems normal and not unusually slowed down and muffled like seen in the viral video.
To summarize, an edited video is shared with a false claim that it shows Tejashwi Yadav drunkenly talking to the media.
