A video being shared on social media (here and here) shows Rahul Gandhi praising Prime Minister Modi for his accomplishments over the last 10 years. In the video, Gandhi admits that he would not be able to match the level of work Modi has done. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.
Claim: Video shows Rahul Gandhi praising Prime Minister Modi for his accomplishments over the past 10 years and admitting he couldn’t match his level of work.
Fact: The audio in the viral video has been manipulated using AI. In the original video, Rahul Gandhi spoke at the London think tank, Chatham House, during his 10-day visit to the UK in March 2023. During the conversation, he discussed various national and international topics, but at no point did he praise PM Modi for his accomplishments over the past 10 years or admit that he couldn’t match his level of work. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
Upon carefully reviewing the viral video, we noticed a watermark stating “AI-generated” on it.
To verify the video, we conducted a reverse image search on the keyframes, which led us to the original video (archived) on the Chatham House YouTube channel, dated 07 March 2023, titled “In Conversation with Rahul Gandhi.”
Rahul Gandhi talked at the renowned London think tank, Chatham House, during his 10-day visit to the UK in March 2023. In the conversation, he discussed key topics such as the impact of the war in Ukraine on international relations, India’s balancing act between the West and Russia, the potential for India to challenge China with an alternative vision for Asia, the state of democracy in India, and the country’s economic prospects for the future.
We reviewed the video frames and matched Rahul Gandhi’s expressions (here, here, and here), where he was discussing the ideology of political parties in India, as well as India’s population and employment issues. Nowhere in the conversation has he praised PM Modi for his accomplishments over the past 10 years or admitted that he couldn’t match his level of work.
To sum up, an AI-manipulated video of Rahul Gandhi is falsely shared as him praising PM Modi’s accomplishments and work.
