AI-generated image falsely claimed as a Child’s Sand Art of Virat Kohli

A collage of photos (here, here and here), allegedly showing a sand art portrait of Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli crafted by a young boy, is going viral on social media. We fact-check this claim through this article.

An archived version of this can be found here.

Claim: These photos showcase the sand art of Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli created by a little boy.

Fact: According to the AI content detection tool ‘Hive’, these images have been generated by Artificial Intelligence. Therefore, the claim presented in the post is False.

To fact-check this claim, we observed the viral images closely. Firstly, one of the photos in the collage presented a spelling error; ‘Sports’ was incorrectly spelled as ‘Spoot’. Additionally, some of the social media accounts (here and here) sharing the image included a ‘#PhotoEditingChallenge’ hashtag along with the collage. Furthermore, these accounts often identified themselves as ‘Digital Creators’ in their social media bios.

These observations led to doubts regarding the authenticity of the photos, suggesting they might have been generated using Artificial Intelligence. To confirm these doubts, we ran the viral collage through a AI Content Detection tool known as ‘AI Classifier’ by Hive. The results suggested that the image is 100% likely to be AI-generated.

Another AI content detection tool known as ‘Maybe’s AI Art Detector’ also identified this as an AI-generated image

To sum up, the images in question are not genuine sand art of Virat Kohli crafted by a child, but rather AI-generated images.
