As the G20 summit held in India ended on 10 September, a video is being shared extensively on social media in which the Indian-American journalist Fareed Zakaria of CNN is seen giving his take on the Indian economy. It is being claimed that Zakaria made this analysis in his CNN TV show “Fareed Zakaria GPS” after the G20 summit. Let’s find out the facts behind this claim.

Claim: After the G20 summit, Fareed Zakaria made comments on the Indian economy on his show.

Fact: This analysis was released in April 2023 after Zakaria visited India. In this video, he shared his opinion on the three revolutions that helped India’s economy surge. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading

Firstly, based on the logos appearing on the viral news clip, we observed that it is from a TV show titled “Fareed Zakaria GPS” on CNN. Taking this as a hint, we performed a keyword search on the internet, leading us to the same news report uploaded on Fareed Zakaria’s Facebook page on 1 May 2023.

The same video was also found on CNN’s website, and the content from the video was presented by the journalist Zakaria as an opinion piece (published on 18 April 2023) in the Washington Post.

Reportedly, he visited India in April 2023, after which he shared his thoughts on Indians being “excited about the future.” This analysis was on the Indian economy and the three revolutions, according to him, that fueled the surge. This has nothing to do with the G20 summit India hosted on 9-10 September 2023.

To sum up, this news clip of Fareed Zakaria’s analysis of the Indian economy from April/May 2023 passed off as one after the G20 summit.
