Reportedly, three sadhus sitting in a crowded area in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut were suspected by the local public of being child kidnappers. They were later handed over to the police, who found them innocent.
As per the reports, suspicion rose over them as one of them possessed an Aadhar card for a child named Shakeel. They were then beaten (here and here) by the locals who thought they were child kidnappers.

Later, the people who thrashed the sadhus were arrested by the police, identified as Puneeth, Mickey, and Himanshu.

Calling this claim false (here and here), Meerut police clarified about this incident via ‘X,’ where they said that all the three men who were beaten by the public were sadhus/fakirs belonging to the Nath community. They are not child kidnappers but beggars.
