A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Hindus in Jammu were marching in support of Nupur Sharma. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video showing Hindus marching in support of Nupur Sharma.

Fact: The video is part of a procession taken out on Hanuman Jayanthi in Noida. On 17 April 2022, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad organised a massive procession on Hanuman Jayanthi in Noida. Some Muslims had served beverages to people taking out such a procession in Noida. Though rallies were taken out in support of Nupur Sharma in some parts of the country, this viral video is not related to such recent rallies. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video, the same video was found uploaded on Facebook. The Facebook video was uploaded by ‘RSS Noida’ page on 18 April 2022. Which means the video is nearly two months old and is not related to the recent comments made by Nupur Sharma.

According to the Facebook post, the video is part of Hanuman Jayanthi and Sri Ramanavami celebrations in Noida. When we searched online with relevant keywords, a YouTube channel – ‘Jan Josh News’ – confirms the visuals to be from Noida. The procession was taken out by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in Noida, to celebrate Hanuman Jayanthi. A video of the procession can also be seen in the Facebook page of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Noida.

On 17 April 2022, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad organised a massive procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanthi in Noida. Some Muslims had served beverages to people taking out the procession in Noida. So, the video is not related to Nupur Sharma’s comments on Prophet Muhammed.

According to some news reports, rallies were taken out in support of Nupur Sharma in some parts of the country (here and here). However, this viral video is not related to such recent rallies.

To sum it up, a procession to celebrate Hanuman Jayanthi in Noida is falsely shared as Hindus rallying in support of Nupur Sharma in Jammu.
