In the context of Aam Aadmi Party’s promise to make Punjab a drug-free state, a video of two Punjabi-speaking women allegedly doing drugs is being shared on social media platforms claiming that it shows AAP Government’s failure in Punjab. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Visuals of two women taking drugs in the AAP ruled Punjab state.

Fact: The video has been viral on various social media platforms at least since June 2015. However, Aam Aadmi Party formed the Government in Punjab only in March 2022. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

We searched the internet with relevant keywords and found that the same video was uploaded by ‘I Love Ludhiana’ page on Facebook on 28 June 2015. Accompanying description reads, “VIRAL VIDEO SHOWS GIRLS IN PUNJAB BECOMING VICTIM OF DRUG EPIDEMIC “.

Same video was also uploaded to video sharing platform ‘Dailymotion’ on 29 June 2015 with the title, “Punjabi Indian girls smoking in hostel room with bad friends”.

However, AAP formed the Government in Punjab only in March 2022. Though we couldn’t independently verify the details of the people seen in the video and exact date of the incident, we can conclude that this video is at least 7 years old, and is not taken during the AAP’s rule in Punjab.

To sum it up, an old video of two women consuming drugs is shared as recent incident from AAP ruled Punjab.
