A video is being shared on social media claiming it as the visuals of Twitter owner & Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressing his intention to buy Meta (formerly Facebook). This video shows Elon Musk saying- “I predict that I will buy tomorrow the entire Meta company! Facebook and Instagram will be also mine too.” Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video showing Elon Musk revealing his intention to acquire Meta.

Fact: The video shared in the post is an altered one. Elon Musk did not make any statement expressing his intention to buy Meta (formerly Facebook). The video shows a clip from Elon Musk’s conversation with the head of ‘TED’, Chris Anderson, in April 2022. During this ‘TED’ talk, Elon Musk had never spoken anything about purchasing Meta. The video was created by altering the audio of the original video clipping. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When we searched to check whether Elon Musk had made any such statement to buy Meta (formerly Facebook), we could not find any news reports confirming this. If Elon Musk had made any such statement, it would have been widely covered by the media.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, we found that the video shows a clip from Elon Musk’s conversation at the ‘TED’ talk held in April 2022. During the conversation with the TED Head Chris Anderson, Elon Musk did not express any such intention to acquire Meta (formerly Facebook).

When we searched for further sources, the same video was found published by a Tik Tok user named ‘become.some’. This user published the video mentioning it as a meme about Elon Musk. The bio of this Tik Tok user states, “Try the free app where you can make any celebrity say anything.” In another video, this Tik Tok user explained the making process of these altered videos using a mobile application. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post is an altered one.

To sum it up, a digitally altered video is shared as the visuals of Elon Musk expressing his intention to acquire Meta in the future.
