2021 video of a brawl in Sindh provincial assembly is shared as visuals in Pakistan National Assembly

A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that the brawl seen in the visuals was from the National Assembly of Pakistan. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Footage of a brawl from the Pakistan National Assembly.

Fact: The video is of a brawl in March 2021, between Pakistani political leaders in the Sindh provincial assembly. Members of the Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) were involved in this brawl ahead of Senate elections in Pakistan. Three dissident PTI leaders were attacked by PTI members as they entered the Sindh Assembly. Later, the members of PPP also joined. Pakistan is currently going through a political crisis as Imran Khan blocked the no-confidence motion against his government by dissolving the national assembly. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

One can see the logo of ‘Kanak News’ on the top right corner of the video. When a reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video with relevant keywords, a video with similar visuals was found on the official YouTube channel of ‘Kanak News’. According to the YouTube video uploaded on 04 March 2021, there was a brawl amongst the leaders in Pakistan’s Sindh Assembly.

Pakistani news outlets had reported about this incident that took place in Sindh provincial assembly in March 2021 before the Senate elections in Pakistan. Members of the Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf (PTI, the party to which Imran Khan belongs) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) were involved in this brawl.
