A post is being shared on social media claiming that Bollywood actor Salman Khan was recently convicted and sentenced to five years in jail. Sharing a video of Salman Khan, this post says that late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s soul will rest in peace after the arrest of Salman Khan. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Recently, after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, Salman Khan was convicted and sentenced to five years in jail.
Fact: On 05 April 2018, a Jodhpur rural court sentenced actor Salman Khan to five years in jail for having poached two blackbucks in Kankani village in 1998. But he was soon granted bail and was released from jail on 07 April 2018. All these events took place before actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June 2020. The video shared in the post was published by Salman Khan himself on his Instagram page, on 20 July 2019. Salman Khan was not convicted again recently in any of the cases. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When we searched to check whether Bollywood actor Salman Khan was recently arrested in any of the cases after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, we could not find any recent press reports informing such news.
In April 2018, a Jodhpur rural court pronounced the verdict holding Salman Khan guilty in the 20 year old blackbucks poaching case. The Jodhpur rural court sentenced Salman Khan to five years in jail for having poached two blackbucks in Kankani village, in 1998. On 05 April 2018, Salman Khan was taken into custody in the courtroom and later, was shifted to the Jodhpur Central Jail on the same day.
But, Salman Khan was soon granted bail and released from the Jodhpur Central Jail on 07 April 2018. The video shared in the post was published by Salman Khan himself on 20 July 2019, stating, “Posting the old fashioned way”.
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra residence on 14 June 2020. But Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in jail in 2018, two years before the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Salman Khan was not convicted again recently in any of the cases.
To sum it up, Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in jail and was soon released after being granted bail in 2018, much before the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
