A post is being shared on social media containing a video clip of the BJP leader Rajnath Singh’s speech. He can be heard commenting on the Prime Minister’s ineffectiveness in controlling inflation. The text on the video implies that these comments are directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Let’s fact-check this video through this article.
Claim: Rajnath Singh finally opens up about the ineffectiveness of Prime Minister Modi in controlling inflation.
Fact: The video is a clipped version of Rajnath Singh’s speech at the Jan Aakrosh Rally, organized on 21 April 2013. In the full video, he commented on the ineffectiveness of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in controlling inflation. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
On performing a reverse image search with the screenshots from the video, we could not find any relevant sources of the original video. We also searched the internet for Rajnath Singh’s speeches in which he made these comments on PM Modi, but we could not find any relevant information. While looking for further clues, we found that a user commented on the post that the video was from 2013. We also observed the logo of the BJP on the top left corner of the video, which is usually seen in the videos uploaded by the official YouTube channel of the BJP.
With these hints, we searched for Rajnath Singh’s speeches from 2013, which were uploaded to the official YouTube channel of BJP and found a video. This video was of his speech at the Jan Aakrosh Rally, organized on 21 April 2013. He makes the comments as seen in the viral video at 05:25 timestamp.
He commented about the country’s Prime Minister making false promises and failing at controlling the inflation in the country. In 2013, Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of India and not Narendra Modi. Clearly, his comments were directed at Manmohan Singh, but the post falsely claims that he made these statements criticising the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
To sum up, the 2013 comments of Rajnath Singh criticising then PM Manmohan Singh are being falsely claimed as his comments on PM Modi.
