Visuals of destruction caused by an earthquake in Turkey falsely linked to the Israel-Palestine conflict

A video is being shared on social media claiming that it shows devastating visuals of buildings demolished by Israeli forces in Palestine. Amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, the video is going viral on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: A recent video showing the buildings demolished by Israeli forces in Palestine.

Fact: The video shared in the post has been circulating on social media at least since February 2023. Many journalists and social media influencers reported it as the visuals of massive destruction caused by the earthquake in Turkey in February 2023. The video is old and has nothing to do with the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, the same video was found published by a journalist, Tanushree Pandey, on 12 February 2023.  The journalist posted the video on Instagram, with the description, “Turkey after the Earthquake.” She credited the video to Fared Al Mahlool, a journalist from Syria.

Several news sites and social media influencers published the same video in February 2023 and stated that the visuals portray the aftermath of the earthquake in Turkey. To sum it up, an unrelated old video from Turkey is shared as the devastating visuals from Palestine amid its ongoing war with Israel.
