A video of a waterfall is being widely shared on Facebook with a claim that it is that of Bhedaghat waterfall in Jabalpur. Bhedaghat waterfall is in Madhya Pradesh and is on the river Narmada. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video of Bhedaghat waterfall in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Fact: The waterfall in the video is Jog falls in Karnataka, not Bhedaghat waterfall in Madhya Pradesh. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When the screenshots of the video in the post were searched using Google reverse image technique, many search results were obtained which indicated that the video in the post is related to Jog falls.
When searched on YouTube using ‘Jog falls’, a similar video posted by ‘Loksatta Live’ was found with the title ‘Jog waterfalls in Karnataka’. Jog waterfalls is in Shimoga district and is situated on the river ‘Sharavathi’.
When searched about Bhedaghat waterfalls on Google, the photos of Bhedaghat waterfalls (also known as Dhuandhar waterfalls) found in Google maps were different from ones in the posted video.
Earlier when the same video was shared as that of Mangampet waterfalls in Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh), Factly had debunked the claim. The fact-check article can be read here.
To sum it up, the video of Jog falls (Karnataka) is falsely shared as that of a Bhedaghat waterfall (Madhya Pradesh).
