A photo through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Corporal Utkarsh Dwivedi cracked the recently held civil services exam with an all-India rank five. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Utkarsh Dwivedi who bagged fifth rank in Civil Services Examination 2021 was a Corporal in the Indian Air Force.

Fact: Utkarsh Dwivedi bagged fifth rank in the Civil Services Examination 2021. He did not take up any job after his graduation from VIT, as his focus was only on the UPSC preparation. However, he was offered a job at a PSU named Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN). Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Utkarsh Dwivedi bagged fifth rank in the Civil Services Examination 2021. When we searched online about the UPSC topper Utkarsh Dwivedi, we found an article in India Today. In the article, he clearly mentions that he did not take up any job after his graduation from VIT, as his focus was only on the UPSC preparation. However, he was offered a job at a PSU named Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN).

There were other interviews and mock interviews (here and here) where Utkarsh Dwivedi mentions that he did not do any job after his graduation. In this mock interview, when asked whether he took up any job after graduating, he answered ‘no’. When asked about the reason for this decision, he replied that he ‘wanted to go for the civil services immediately after his graduation’ as he ‘did not want to waste a single day to do a thing’ that he did not want to do.

To sum it up, UPSC topper Utkarsh Dwivedi was not a corporal in the Indian Air Force; he did not take up any job after his graduation.
