Unrelated video shared as ISRO scientists dancing after the success of Chandrayaan-3

A video of ISRO chief S. Somanath dancing in a party setup is going viral on social media, claiming that these visuals show Dr. Somanath and other ISRO scientists celebrating the success of Chandrayaan-3. Let’s fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Visuals of ISRO scientists dancing after the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon. 

Fact: This video was shot in July 2023 during the G20 space economy leaders’ meeting cultural night event. Wion News correspondent Sidharth MP, who was present at the event, filmed this video and uploaded it on Twitter after the Chandrayaan-3 soft landing, congratulating the ISRO team for the success of Chandrayaan-3. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To learn more about the viral clip, we performed a keyword search online, which led us to a tweet from Journalist Sidharth MP, who works for Wion News. He posted this video congratulating team ISRO for the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

Under the same tweet, he made another post in which he mentioned that this video was from an old event to which he had formal access and emphasised that the video was not from yesterday.

PTI Fact Check contacted Sidharth, who said, “This (Video) is from an event in July 2023 in Bengaluru. It was the G20 space economy leaders’ meeting (here) cultural night event.” We also contacted Sidharth and await his response, after which this article will be updated with more information.
