Unrelated old videos shared as visuals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing his leaving the country

One of the videos that was debunked already in the below article is being shared now on social media with a new claim that it shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reaction after he was threatened by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. But as explained below, the video actually shows PM Modi urging citizens to follow the Janata Curfew and requesting people to thank frontline workers by clapping and ringing bells in March 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The video has nothing to do with Rahul Gandhi.

A video is being shared on social media claiming that they show recent visuals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi making an announcement about him leaving the country. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi making an announcement about him leaving the country.

Fact: The video shared in the post shows PM Modi’s speech it the Lok Sabha on 07 February 2017. While speaking during the motion of thanks to the President’s address on 07 February 2017, PM Modi criticised Congress Party and their leaders raising multiple issues. But he never made any announcement about him leaving the country during his speech on  07 February 2017. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When we searched for this video using relevant keywords on the internet, a video with similar visuals was found published by the BJP’s official YouTube channel on 07 February 2017. BJP published this video with the title, “PM Shri Narendra Modi’s speech on motion of thanks on the President’s Address, 07.02.2017.”

While speaking during the motion of thanks to the President’s address on 07 February 2017, PM Modi criticised Congress Party and their leaders on multiple issues. A copy of PM Modi’s full speech on 07 February 2017, in the Lok Sabha, can be seen here. During his address, Narendra Modi never made any statement about leaving the country.

Another video is also being shared with a similar claim mentioning it as the visuals of Narendra Modi making an announcement of leaving the country. But the video actually shows PM Modi urging citizens to follow the Janata Curfew and requesting people to thank frontline workers by clapping and ringing bells in March 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Lately, when unrelated old videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were shared as visuals of him announcing different freebies for people, FACTLY published a fact-check article debunking those claims.
