Unrelated old video from Venezuela shared as the recent visuals of Kuki militants attacking Meitei people with firearms

A video is being shared on social media claiming it is the recent visuals of Kuki militants attacking Meitei people with firearms in Manipur. In the wake of the latest reports on Kukis launching attacks on Meitei villages using firearms, this video is going viral on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Kuki militants attacking Meitei people with firearms in Manipur.

Fact: The post shared a 2021 video of the El Conejo gang firing bullets towards Venezuela’s Criminal Investigation Unit’s (CICPC) in Tejerias, Venezuela. The video shared in the post is old and has nothing to do with the recent conflict between the Meitei and Kuki tribes in Manipur. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.  

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, a video with similar visuals was found tweeted by the La Verdad Vargas news site on 09 July 2021. This news site published the video with a description, “Members of the El Conejo gang shoot from the mountain towards the Cicpc headquarters in Tejerías.”

When we searched for further sources using relevant keywords, a photo showing similar visuals was found in an article published by the El Nacional news site on 08 July 2021. This news site reported it as the visuals of the El Conejo gang shooting from the mountain towards Venezuela’s Criminal Investigation Unit’s (CICPC) headquarters in Tejerias, Venezuela.

Reporting the confrontation between Venezuelan Security Forces and the gang members of Carlos Luis Revette, alias El Koki, several news sites published tweets, articles, and videos in July 2021. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post is old and has nothing to do with the recent conflict that escalated between the Meitei and Kuki tribes in Manipur.

Earlier, when similar unrelated videos were linked to the Manipur’s Kuki-Meitei conflict on social media, Factly published a fact-check article debunking those claims.

To sum it up, an unrelated old video from Venezuela is shared as the recent visuals of Kuki militants attacking Meitei people with firearms.
