Fact: According to her Voter ID information her name is ‘DISHA A RAVI’ and her father’s name is ‘RAVI ANNAPPA’. A news article reported Disha Ravi’s family and friends saying that she is a Hindu bought up in a Lingayat household, and her name is ‘DISHA ANNAPPA RAVI’. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
We ran a search on Karnataka state CEO website and accessed Disha Ravi’s voter identification information. As per the information available in this, her full name is ‘DISHA A RAVI’ and her father’s name is ‘RAVI ANNAPPA’. JOSERH is not associated with her name as per this information.
Further Google search with keywords led us to a news article which debunked the claim that Disha Ravi is a Christian. The article reported that Disha Ravi’s family confirmed that she is a Hindu, and her full name is Disha Annappa Ravi.
The article has also reported Prasanna R, a lawyer and close friend of Disha’s family stating that ‘Disha’s mother’s name is Manjula Nanjaiah, father is Ravi Annappa. They are from Tiptur in Tumkur district of Karnataka.’. She added ‘Disha has not followed any religion though she was brought up in a Lingayat household’. Further BOOM, a fact-checking agency accessed Mount Carmel College’s annual day report for the 2018 batch which lists details about all the student festivals at the college. The report quoted Ravi describing her experience at Carpe Diem, the business management festival by the Department of Business Studies. In this her name was also mentioned as Disha A. Ravi.
