Fact: The video shared in the post is an edited one. This video shows Om Puri’s old interview with a Pakistani news channel in 2014. In the interview, when the journalist asked about the image of Muslims in India, Om Puri said that a false impression was created about Muslims in India that they are extremists and that they think there should be no other religion except Islam and that the whole world should accept it. Om Puri later said that this impression created about Muslims is not true. A portion of this full conversation was clipped and is shared with a false narrative. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
On searching for the details of this video using relevant keywords, a video with similar visuals was found published on a YouTube channel with the title, “The real video in which Om Puri talks about Islam and his beliefs”. At 2:23 minute of the video, when the journalist asked about the image of Muslims in India and other western countries, Om Puri said that a false impression was created about Muslims in India that they are extremists and that they think there should be no other religion except Islam and that the whole world should accept it. He later said that this impression created about Muslims is not true.
When we searched for further details, we found out that Om Puri had made these comments during an interview with Pakistan news channel ‘Dunya News’ on 27 March 2014. The full interview video uploaded on the Dunya News channel can be seen here. We could see the same conversation from 13:48 minutes of the video. A portion of this full conversation was clipped and shared with a false narrative in the post. Om Puri in the interview proclaimed himself as a Hindu who respects every other religion.
