This viral message about “Permanent Address” was not written by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

A post accompanied by a message on “Permanent Address” is widely circulating on social media platforms with the claim that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman penned this message. The same message was shared earlier on social media, attributing it to Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar. In this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: This viral message about “Permanent Address” is written by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Fact: This viral message about “Permanent Address” was originally written by Aseem Dhru, MD & CEO of SBFC Finance Ltd. He shared these lines on his Twitter account on 10 July 2023. In another Twitter post, he mentioned that these lines were shared on social media platforms, attributing them to Javed Akhtar. However, Javed Akhtar clarified that he is not the author of these lines. There is no evidence of Nirmala Sitharaman penning the message. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a relevant keyword search on the internet. However, we didn’t find any reliable reports stating that these lines on “Permanent Address” were written by Nirmala Sitharaman. This search led us to a LinkedIn post dated 10 July 2023, shared by Aseem Dhru, MD & CEO of SBFC Finance Ltd. This LinkedIn post contains identical prose on “permanent address.” He also shared the same on his X account.

Considering this, we contacted Aseem Dhru seeking clarification on whether he is the author of these lines or if they were sourced from elsewhere. In his response, he confirmed that he is the original author of these lines on “permanent address.” He also disclosed that these lines were shared on social media earlier, attributing them to Javed Akhtar. However, Javed Akhtar clarified on X(Twitter), stating that he is not the author of these lines. Subsequently, we also found a LinkedIn post by Aseem Dhru about Javed Akhtar’s clarification. From this information, it is evident that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not write the lines on “Permanent Address.”
