A video is being shared widely on social media with a claim that it shows people offering a saree to the Narmada River using arrows before the onset of rains. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Fact: The posted video does not show a real incident. It is a clip taken from a Gujarati movie called ‘Reva’. However, there are real instances where a saree has been offered to the Narmada River. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

When the screenshots of the video were run through Google Reverse Image Search, many similar videos were found in the search results. A YouTube channel has posted the same video and wrote – “Excellent Scene from Reva Gujarathi movie. Offering Saree to Narmada River”. So, it is a clip taken from a Gujarati movie called ‘Reva’. However, there are real instances where a saree has been offered to the Narmada River as part of some rituals. Some of those videos can be seen here, here, and here. Also, in 2017, a 3,055 metre-long saree was dipped in the Narmada River.
