A video is being shared on social media with a claim that it shows crowd singing ‘Vande Mataram’ at the Brisbane Cricket Ground (also called the ‘Gabba’) after India won the last test match. The same video is being shared on YouTube (archived) with a similar claim. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

The archived version of this post can be found here

Claim: Video of the crowd singing ‘Vande Mataram’ after India won a test match at the Gabba (Australia).

Fact: The video is an old one. It was taken at the Dubai Stadium, not at the Gabba. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When the screenshots of the video were run through Google Reverse Image Search, the same video was found to be uploaded on YouTube in August 2020 with the title – “Crowd sang ” VANDE MATARAM” in IND VS PAK CRICKET Match at DUBAI”. The India-Australia fourth test happened at the Gabba between 15 January – 19 January 2021.

Also, in the video, the ‘Ring of fire’ lighting system of the Dubai Stadium can be seen. So, it can be concluded that the video is not a recent one and not taken at the Gabba.

Another video (archived) is being shared with a similar claim that an Australia fan chanted ‘Vande Mataram’ slogans after India won the match at the Gabba.

On the video, the logo of ‘World Cricket Fans’ can be seen. So, when we searched with the keywords, the same video was found to be posted by ‘World Cricket Fans’ on 18 January 2021 (i.e. Day 4 of the test match), whereas India has won the test match on 19 January 2021 (i.e. Day 5 of the test match). The video is credited to ‘Ashutosh Misr’. Ashutosh Misr has also posted the same video on his Twitter profile on 18 January 2020. In the comments section, he mentioned that he took the video. The video of the same Australian fan from another angle can be seen here. While it is true that the video was taken at the Gabba, it was not taken after India’s win.

To sum it up, the video of the crowd singing ‘Vande Mataram’ was not taken at the Gabba. It was taken at the Dubai Stadium.
