As the news started coming in from Nice (a city in France) about a knife attack at the Notre Dame Basilica church which resulted in the killing of at least three people, some social media users are sharing a video with the claim that it shows police taking down the killer. The video is being shared both on Facebook and Twitter. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of French Police taking down the killer who attacked the people at the Notre Dame Basilica church in Nice on 29 October 2020.

Fact: The video is not related to today’s knife attack at the Notre Dame Basilica church in Nice. While the incident in the posted video happened in Nice, it took place in August 2020. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When the screenshots of the video were run through Google Reverse Image Search, the same video was found to be published by multiple news agencies in August 2020. In one of the articles, it can be read that a person who was aiming a gun at the police and firing in the air was arrested by the police in Nice. Also, Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi had tweeted the video of the same incident from another angle in August 2020. So, it is not related to today’s knife attack at the Notre Dame Basilica church in Nice. Multiple news agencies have reported that a person has been arrested in connection with the knife attack at the church on 29 October 2020.

To sum it up, the posted video is not related to today’s knife attack at the Notre Dame Basilica church in Nice (France).
