A purported letter of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) is being shared on social media claiming that the Cyber Crime department is sending court notices through e-mails to individuals who are accused of cybercrimes involving child pornography, paedophilia, cyber pornography and others. The purported email, which appeared to be sent by a cybercrime agency’s administrator named Rajesh Kumar, informs that they have detected cyber-infiltration from the person’s Internet Protocol (IP) address and urges them to respond to the e-mail. Further, the letter warns of serious legal action if they fail to give a response to the court order in 24 hours. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Fact: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) through a tweet confirmed that the viral letter is fake and clarified that no such letter was issued by any organization under the Government of India. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

When we searched to check whether the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) was issuing any such notices to the persons allegedly involved in cybercrimes, we found a tweet published by the PIB Fact Check related to the viral letter circulating on social media. PIB through the tweet confirmed that the viral letter is fake and clarified that no such letter was issued by any organization under the Government of India.
