The ICC Women’s World Cup began on 30 September 2025 and will run until 2 November 2025, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. As the matches continue, a recent game between New Zealand and Bangladesh ended with New Zealand winning by 100 runs. Amid this, a photo (here, here and here) has gone viral on social media showing two women wearing burqas on a cricket field, with claims that Bangladeshi women players are competing in burqas. Let’s find the truth behind this photo.

Claim: The viral photo shows Bangladeshi women cricketers played wearing burqas during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match against New Zealand.
Fact: The viral image is AI-generated, as confirmed by the AI detection tool AI or Not. Official match footage and reports show Bangladeshi players wearing their standard team jerseys, not burqas. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we searched for reports about the New Zealand vs Bangladesh match held on 10 October 2025. Several news reports covered the game, but none mentioned that Bangladeshi players played wearing burqas. We also watched the match highlights on JioCinema, where the tournament is being streamed, and found no players wearing burqas.

In the viral photo, the scoreboard at the bottom displays the names “Jhelik” and “Supta.” During the actual match, both players had a partnership of 7 runs before Supta was dismissed. Upon reviewing the footage, we confirmed that both players were wearing the official Bangladeshi jersey, not burqas.

To determine whether the image was AI-generated, we ran it through an AI detector called AI or Not, which clearly indicated that the image is likely AI-generated. These pieces of evidence confirm that Bangladeshi players did not play wearing burqas or hijabs, the viral image is AI-generated and not real.

To sum up, the photo showing Bangladeshi women playing in the ICC Women’s World Cup wearing burqas is AI-generated and not real.
