This man was not beaten for hoisting blue colour BSP flag instead of National flag

A video is being shared on social media claiming that police thrashed a man for hoisting the blue colour BSP party flag instead of tricolour National Flag on Independence day. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

The archived version of the post can be seen here.

Claim: Police thrashing a person for hoisting the BSP flag on Independence day.

Fact: In the video, the man was thrashed by police for violating the lockdown rules during the month of March 2020. It has nothing to do with the BSP and Independence day celebrations. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On reverse image search of screenshots in the video, we found a similar photo in an article published by ‘Patrika’ news website on ‘25 March 2020’. In the article, it is mentioned that police were thrashing the people who violated the lockdown rules imposed by the Government of India. The same video was posted by ‘Amar Ujala’ news website mentioning it as the punishment for violating the lockdown restrictions.

On clearly observing the video, we could see the logo of Maharashtra police on the police vehicle. This incident in the video most probably took place in Maharashtra.

Also, by closely observing the flag in the video, we found out that it is the Republic Party of India (Athawale) flag. It is an old video related to police punishment for violating lockdown restrictions imposed by the Government of India.

To sum it up, an old video related to the police punishment for violating the lockdown restrictions is being falsely shared as the punishment for hoisting blue colour BSP flag instead of tricolour National flag.
