A post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Muslims and Christians are provided reservation in government institutions in Delhi. The post even claims that, because of Sonia Gandhi, since 2008, those government institutions have had such a low number of Hindu officers. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Since 2008, reservations were given to Muslims and Christians in Central government institutions; hence such low number of Hindu officers in those institutions.

Fact: The list of central government officers is available in the official websites of their respective institutions. When the list of officers working in President’s Secretariat, Vice President’s Secretariat, and Prime Minister’s Office is seen, most of the officers are Hindus. As per the constitution of India, reservation cannot be granted solely based on religion; it does not discriminate people based on religion. There is no rule which provides reservation specifically to Muslims and Christians in the central government institutions. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

The list of central government officers is available on the official websites of the respective institutions. For instance, the list of officers in three institutions is taken & compared with the numbers provided in the post. The details are given below.

President’s Secretariat:

The list of officers working at the President of India’s secretariat can be seen on the official website of the President’s secretariat. The claim made in the post that out of 49 posts, 45 are Muslims and Christians, and only 4 are Hindus, is not true. According to the data given on the website, there are some 36 officers and most of them have Hindu names.

Vice President Secretariat:

The claim made in the post that out of 35 posts, 33 are Muslims and Christians, and only 2 are Hindus, is not true. According to the data given on the website, there are some 49 officers and most of them have Hindu names.

As per the constitution of India, reservation cannot be granted solely based on religion; it does not discriminate against people based on religion. There is no rule which provides reservation specifically to Muslims and Christians in the central government institutions. The government also does not maintain such a list based solely on religion.

To sum it up, there are no reservations in central government institutions solely based on religion.
