Claim: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue a new ₹5000 note.

Fact: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has neither released nor issued any circular about a ₹5000 note. Additionally, a post on the official X handle of PIB Fact Check dated 04 January 2025 debunked the claim as ‘fake,’ stating that RBI has made no decision regarding the release of ₹5000 banknotes. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we reviewed the official website of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) but found no circular or announcement regarding the release of a ₹5000 note or plans to introduce one in the future. The RBI routinely informs the public about new currency notes through official circulars on its website.

RBI publishes details and security features of all currency notes currently in circulation on the ‘Paisa Bolta Hai’ website. The ₹5000 note is not included in this list.

Additionally, we found a post (archived) on the official X handle of PIB Fact Check dated 04 January 2025, debunking the claim as ‘fake.’ It stated that the RBI had not decided to release of ₹5000 banknotes.
