The claim that Hamdard Unani pharmaceutical company does not employ any Hindu is false

A post is being shared on social media saying that not a single Hindu youth would get a job in Hamdard Laboratories, a Unani pharmaceutical company. Let’s verify the authenticity of the claim through this article.

Claim: Unani pharmaceutical company, Hamdard Laboratories, does not employ any Hindu youth.

Fact: The top leadership section on Hamdard company’s website showed both Hindus and Muslims. Moreover, when a Mahapanchayat was convened by local representatives to advocate for a 50% reservation of job positions for Hindus at Hamdard’s Manesar unit in 2022, Shailesh Tiwari, Chief of Operations, said, “I am a Hindu who is heading the unit here and that says all about the recruitment policy. I cannot divulge anymore but can say, these allegations and threats are all baseless publicity stunts.” Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

To verify the claim made in the post, we went to the leadership section on the company’s website and found that both Hindus and Muslims are part of the top leadership at Hamdard.

A keyword search across various social networking platforms led us to social media profiles (here and here) linked to employees of this company that include non-muslims.

Furthermore, we also searched if there are any instances of Hamdard company denying jobs to non-Muslims or advertised jobs only for Muslims as mentioned in the post. However, we couldn’t find any news articles reporting such incidents. Had any such incidents occurred, they would have been definitely reported by the media as Hamdard is a well-known company.

In this process, we came across an article published by ‘The Tribune’ on 8 July 2022, titled “Gurugram: Mahapanchayat for 50 pc reservation in pharma company”. According to this report, on 7 July 2022,  a Mahapanchayat was convened by local representatives to advocate for a 50% reservation of job positions for Hindus at  Hamdard company in Manesar village, Gurugram. The protest also highlighted concerns that even if vacancies existed at Hamdard, local applicants with appropriate qualifications and competencies would not be given fair consideration for employment. However, Shailesh Tiwari, Chief of Operations at Hamdard’s Manesar unit, refuted these allegations and said, “I am a Hindu who is heading the unit here and that says all about the recruitment policy. I cannot divulge anymore but can say, these allegations and threats are all baseless publicity stunts.”

To sum up, the claim that Hamdard Unani pharmaceutical company does not employ any Hindu youth is false.
