A video (here and here) of a person being beaten by a few men is doing the rounds on social media. It is claimed that this incident happened in Rajasthan and that it shows Muslims thrashing and killing a Dalit man. We will fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: This video shows a Dalit man being thrashed to death in Rajasthan by Muslims.
Fact: This incident reportedly took place on 14 May 2024 in Rajasthan, in which a man named Rameshwar Valmiki was killed by the local liquor mafia in Baloda village, Jhunjhunu District. According to the police and FIR, none of the accused in this incident are Muslims. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To learn more about the viral video, we performed a keyword search on the internet using relevant keywords. This search led us to multiple news reports (here, here, and here) on this incident that contained screenshots of the viral video.

Reportedly, ‘A Dalit man in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district was recently beaten to death allegedly by a liquor mafia for not purchasing liquor from the outlet being operated by them.’
Rameshwar was reportedly kidnapped by the accused when he was returning home and taken to a secluded place. He was later hung upside down and beaten.

When the video went viral with a claim that Ramesjwar was brutally killed by Muslims in Rajasthan, Jhunjhunu police commented on the names and caste of the accused people under one such post on ‘X.(archive link)
‘In relation to the incident, the main accused are Subhash alias Chintu caste Meghwal and Satish alias Sitaram alias Sukha caste Meghwal residents of Balouda along with other accomplices Deependra alias Chintu Rajput, Praveen Kumar alias PK Meghwal residents of Balouda and Praveen alias Baba Meghwal resident Urika has been arrested, and a minor has also been detained.,’ said Jhunjhunu police in their comment.
The main accused belong to the Meghwal caste, which is categorised as a Scheduled Caste. Police said they have arrested all the accused in this regard and asked people not to share misleading information about the viral video.
The Superintendent of Police Rajarshi Raj Verma of Jhunjhunu told Aaj Tak that the nine accused in this case have been arrested, among whom the main accused are Dalits.
