A post is being widely shared on social media claiming that the attached image contains a poster saying, ‘Brahmins Are Foreigners, Their Homes Have ACs’. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Poster saying, ‘Brahmins Are Foreigners, Their Homes Have ACs’.
Fact: The poster is morphed. It is taken from an original poster saying ‘Brahmins Are Foreigners, Their DNA Is Eurasian’. The poster was displayed in a rally by the Bahujan Mukti Morcha who were protesting the incident of Bhima Koregaon, in January 2018. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When reverse image search is done on the image, a similar image was found in a Facebook post. This Facebook post was published on 15 January 2018 by a page named ‘India News’. It simply says ‘Bahujan Kranti Morcha’.
When the image is observed closely, we can see that the text ‘Their Homes Have ACs’ (in Hindi) had been digitally added. The text alignment is also different – the text in the lower line is aligned differently from the text on the upper line.
Taking a cue that this could be a rally by ‘Bahujan Kranti Morcha’, we searched for similar images. We found a Facebook post saying that these were people of Bahujan Kranti Morcha protesting against the Bhima Koregaon incident, in Bhiwani District Haryana. We searched for news articles about this protest and found an article by Dainik Jagran where the same poster could be seen in its image.
We searched for news articles about the posters displayed in the rally that ‘Brahmins’ DNA is Eurasian’, an article by India Today is found that mentions a controversial 2001-study where the study says, ‘upper caste Indians are closer to Europeans than lower castes to Asians’. But nothing is concluded yet and the ‘final verdict on that is far from out yet’.
To sum it up, the poster saying, ‘Brahmins Are Foreigners, Their Homes Have ACs’ is morphed.
