A post with a photo is being widely shared claiming that a UP boy had broken four TV sets after India’s loss to both New Zealand and Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup. The post even claims that the 17-year-old boy broke the TV sets after seeing the match. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Fact: The photo is from Ahmedabad and not from UP. The photo shows a person breaking a TV after India’s loss to Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy final of 2017. There are no recent reports of a UP boy breaking four television sets after India’s loss to both New Zealand and Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When reverse image search is done on the photo, a tweet by BombayTimes with the same image was found. The tweet was made on 18 June 2017, where it says that TV sets were broken on the streets of Ahmedabad after India’s loss to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final of 2017.

We found news reports which carried similar photos and reported the same incidents in 2017. Unable to chase 339, India was bowled out for just 158 in the ICC Champions Trophy final in 2017. After the loss, some people in Ahmedabad broke their TV sets on the streets, as seen in the photo. Some people have even burnt posters of the players.

There is a video published by ‘News18 Virals’ of people in Bihar breaking a TV after India’s defeat to Pakistan in the recent T20 World Cup. However, there are no recent reports of a UP boy breaking four television sets after India’s loss to both New Zealand and Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
