A social media post accompanying a video showing sadhus perform abhishekam of the Shivling is being widely shared with a claim that the visuals actually show Kathmandu Pasupathi Nath abhishekam. Through this article let’s fact-check the veracity of the claim.

Claim: Visuals showing Kathmandu Pasupathi Nath abhishekam.

Fact: These visuals are actually from Andhra Pradesh and more than four years old. As per reports, these visuals show Maha rudrabhishekam in Guntur in 2017. And over the years, similar rituals have been taking place in different parts of Telugu states. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

The viral visuals are more than four years old and do not show Kathmandu Pasupathi Nath. Reverse image search of the viral visuals led us to a 2017 Telugu local news video which carried the same visuals. As per the description of the video, the visuals show Maha rudrabhishekam in Guntur. The title of the video reads ‘Maha Rudrabhishekam @ Amma Ashramam’.

Further, there are reports of similar rituals taking place in different parts of Telugu states (here, here & here). Visuals of these events are also similar to the viral one. Sadhus perform Maha rudrabhishekam in similar backdrop. From all these reports it is evident that viral visuals are not from Kathmandu.

Further, we could not find any reports attributing similar visuals to Kathmandu’s Pasupathi Nath temple. Visuals from the Pasupathi Nath temple can be seen here.

To sum it up, old visuals of Maha Rudrabhishekam to Shivling in Andhra Pradesh are passed off as from Kathamandu’s Pasupathi Nath temple.
