In light of the recent incidents of communal violence in Rajasthan’s Karauli district, a social media post accompanying a video carrying visuals of a large number of houses with saffron flags atop is being widely shared attributing it to Karauli. Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Visuals of large number of houses in Karauli with Saffron flags following the recent communal violence.
Fact: While Karauli witnessed communal violence on the Hindu New Year Day, the viral visuals have nothing to do with the Karauli violence. The video has been doing rounds on internet for quite some time now. In the past, the same visuals were attributed to the Karnataka hijab row. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
Earlier this month, on 02 April 2022, Rajasthan’s Karauli witnessed communal violence. Violence broke out following stone-pelting at a motorcycle rally of Hindus passing through a Muslim-dominated area on the Hindu New Year Day. Visuals related to the violence can be viewed here, here, and here.
However, the viral video shared in the post has nothing to do with the Karauli incident. These visuals have been doing rounds on the internet for quite a while now. A couple of old social media posts which shared the same video earlier can be viewed here and here.
Earlier when the same video was shared in the backdrop of the Karnataka hijab row, FACTLY debunked the video as old and unrelated.
To sum it up, old visuals are being circulated in the backdrop of Karauli communal violence.
