A video of saffron flags on top of the houses is shared on social media with a claim that it shows a reaction to the action of six girls who recently protested for their right to wear hijab at a college in Karnataka. The video is being shared widely in the context of the current hijab row in Karnataka. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Recent video of saffron flags on top of the houses in Karnataka as a reaction to pro-hijab protests.

Fact: While the location of the video is not known, it is not related to the current hijab row in Karnataka. It is an old video. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When the screenshots of the video were run through Google Reverse Image Search, many similar videos were found in the search results. A Facebook page has posted the same video in July 2021. However, in ‘The Times of India’ article, it can be read that the six girl students were protesting in Karnataka from December 2021 as they were not allowed to attend classes with hijab. So, the video is not related to any recent pro or anti-hijab protests in Karnataka.

Also, when the same video went viral, in October 2021, as related to Chhattisgarh’s Kawardha communal violence, ‘Newschecker’ has debunked it saying it is an old and unrelated video.

To sum it up, an old video is being shared as saffron flags on houses in Karnataka as a reaction to recent pro-hijab protests.
